What is CO?   Carbon Monoxide ( AKA: CO ) is an odorless , colorless, tasteless gas produced by burning fossil fuels such as natural  gas, coal , oil , kerosene, propane or wood. Exposure to CO over along period of time or a high dosage over short time are both dangerous and could be fatal.

Who is at risk? Everyone is at risk. Groups that may feel the symptoms first are children, elderly, pregnant woman , or people with lung or heart disease.

Signs & Symptoms?  Common signs and symptoms are, but not limited to, headache, fatigue, sleepiness, weakness, nausea-vomiting, dizziness, or trouble breathing.

Common CO Producers? Gas furnace, gas water heater, fire place, oven , stove top , dryers, space heaters and grills.

What to do if CO alarm goes off?   Ventilation is key !! Open windows , turn off fuel burning appliance if possible, call 911, any symptoms occur get medical attention , and do not go back in the residence until the Fire Dept. says you can.

  

SAFETY TIPS FOR GRILL’S

There are Three types of Grills.

1. Propane gas which uses propane tanks.  

2. Natural gas piped from your house.  

3. Charcoal grill uses charcoal with lighter fluid.

 

TIPS:     1. Read all instructions before using the grill and note the safety labels.

             2. Clean the grill before and after each use to avoid grease build up that causes fire spread.

             3. NEVER put lighter fluid directly on flames.

             4. Keep grill away from buildings. ( House / Garages etc..)

             5. Use the grill outside NEVER inside.

             6. Store all lighter fluids away from children.

             7. Have an ABC multipurpose extinguisher available.

             8. NEVER leave cooking unattended.

             9. Use only fluids recommended for charcoal grilling.

10. Dispose of all Charcoal properly in metal container doused  with water.
